Farmhouse Inspired Living Room Makeover

Good Morning babes! So I finally got all the decor and furniture put together in the living room so today’s post is all the details of our living room redo. I’ve wanted to redo our living room for so long now and even though we’re about to begin the home buying process we have about 6-8 months until everything is done and I just couldn’t keep looking at our terrible couches for that long and I certainly wasn’t moving them into our new house, lol. Our old couches have been with us for 5 years through kids, pets, moves, etc and it was definitely time for a change. I went with a sectional because I wanted one furniture piece that I could base the rest of our decor around. Our couch is from (add American Freight link). They have so many styles of couches to choose from. Sectionals, couch and loveseat sets, accent chairs, recliners. You name it and they have it. The couch we ended up choosing was the last one they had in stock so we grabbed it before it was gone. It came in just under $900 with the sale price and taxes. It was the perfect large size and I liked the color because it fit in with the farmhouse feel that I love.

Our recliner and coffee table are from Elite Wholesale Furniture. They sell brand new scratch and dent furniture from stores that have closed or had over stock. They were both in perfect condition and we got them together for $340. (Told you I love bargains and sales, lol). I love the fact that the coffee table has drawers so I can store remotes and seasonal decorations in there so they’re hidden when not in use. Our entertainment stand under the tv is the Kallax shelf unit from ikea ($109) and the baskets are as well ($12.99 ea.). We were going to get some doors to go on it too but ended up not needing them. We turned our old diy shelving unit into a bookcase. I love our little lamp from Ikea as well($80). It has a little table with a built in wireless charging pad and I just bought an extra one ($17.99) so we can both charge our phones wirelessly. It also has a usb plug in the back of it so someone who doesn’t have wireless charging can charge their phone or tablet as well. We chose not to get a lamp shade and just use the large dimming farmhouse style lightbulb from ikea ($12.99) and it just brings such nice lighting into the room at night.

My mirrored wooden tray that sits on top of the coffee table is from Ross ($10.99), the mini faux succulent plants are from Target dollar spot ($3 ea.) and the center beauty and the beast style plant is from ikea. My throw pillows except for the patterned ones are from At Home ($5-20 ea.and they had a buy 1 get one half off sale) and my oversized throws are all from Walmart. Our throw rug was $25 from At Home but was smaller than I meant to grab (it’s 3×5) but I will get a larger one later. My husband built our farmhouse style dining room table and I’m still so in love with it.

Over all I am just so in love with how cozy everything feels and looks now. I love how the different tones of brown bring out the colors in everything and pulls everything together so beautifully. If I missed anything or forgot to post anything that you have questions about please feel free to comment below and I will definitely give you a link to the item that you are asking about.

Brigitte Brianna Baseball Dress

What’s better than a dress? A dress with pockets, lol. I love dresses in the summer time. I really like them all year round but especially in the Florida summer heat a dress can be a life saver. Less clothing to put on and your outfit is complete with just one piece. I’m always nervous to try a new online site especially when I don’t know any other long limbed ladies to base size and length off of. But on Sexy Modest there’s size references for the models so it helps a ton when shopping. This fun dress is the baseball dress and it sells out quick. I was trying to order the grey one too and it was sold out (cry face emoji, lol).

It fits perfect and has a drawstring waist so you can adjust it to fit your length and waist. It’s a soft breathable material and the pockets are pretty deep. I’ve fit keys, phone, lipstick, toys. You name it the pockets have held it. No need for a purse with this one, lol. The best part is it’s under $40, machine washable and fits either just below or just above the knee depending on how you tie the drawstring. I wear it tied above the waist so it looks like a top and skirt.

Master Bedroom Makeover for under $1800

I’m so excited for this post. I have been wanting to get new bedroom furniture forever and we just kept putting it off. But I’m so glad we finally took the plunge and did it. Even though it was mainly me to my husband like “Ok, so this is happening like now, lol.” My bedroom is a bit more modern and bright than my livingroom which you will see in my livingroom revamp post soon because I love so many different styles I wanted to make every room something fun and different to walk into.

What’s even better is we were able to revamp our room for under $1800. I know to some that may seem like a lot as well but before we started I spent 2 weeks putting together a vision board, looking at other room ideas, choosing furniture, etc. what I learned was just finding furniture that’s pretty, functional and still inexpensive can be done. Because any sort of home decor redo can definitely put your budget high if you aren’t shopper savvy. Just by having my husband powdercoat our dresser and nightstand handles instead of just buying new ones saved us about $40. I also saved money by keeping my floor mirror and office furniture I already had. I shopped around, went to sales, used coupons, etc. whatever you need to do to get your room how you want it for the least expensive is really the main goal.

I went with a white base (furniture) and then added in some mustard yellow, grey, gold, silver and navy blue. So it has a feminine touch but still some masculinity to it. Don’t want the hubs to feel left out in his own bedroom, lol. The ikea dressers we went with are a new design at ikea and they came just in time for our revamp. The original handle were black but we powdercoated them silver to match the lamps. (A little ikea hack for you, lol) I shopped at At home, Target, Ikea and American Freight. We haven’t added any pictures yet because I want to find some that match the decor better than the photos we had up previously. I will make a post once I find the perfect ones.

Below is the before and after of our room. Just rearranging your furniture can give your room a whole new feel. We wanted to create more space and a more open feel in our room as well and just by changing the colors in our room and moving the bed and things around made it feel like our master bedroom was so much larger than it really is. Just by going from dark furniture to a white and silver theme with pops of color gave it a larger, more bright and clean flow. If you’d like a more in depth post of how I saved $1500 while still buying basically all new bedroom furniture than please leave a comment and I will definitely get that post up for you because I love helping others save money while still being able to decorate, have amazing decor and live comfortably.

Flirty Off The Shoulder Style

I love black. Half my wardrobe consists of black tops and bottoms. Maybe it’s the cosmetologist in me or just the fact that black looks good on anyone. I find it so easy to pair black with anything but sometimes you don’t want it to look like you’re in mourning or depressed so I like to find black tops that can be flirty as well. This top from Sirens did that perfectly. From the cute detail of the top and the fact that it’s a bodysuit so it won’t bunch up in your pants or skirt. It just adds an extra flair to the outfit. I love the design of the bow slides as well because it brings a cute and fun detail to the outfit. My jeans from Fashion Nova are distressed boyfriend jeans, they’re so comfortable and have a nice loose fit without being too baggy and they were under $40. I wore this to a casual dinner with the family and got so many compliments on such a simple outfit. What are your favorite colors? Do you have a more neutral palette? I hope you beauties are having a lovely day.

Flirty Blush Pink Style

It’s hot in Florida and I do mean HOT! Yesterday my car read 102 degrees outside temperature (insert gasps for air, lol). I love blush pink. Pink in general has been one of my favorite colors forever. But when I saw this top at Sirens I had to grab it. It’s blush pink and off the shoulder so 2 things I adore, lol. The shorts are from the Time and Tru line at Walmart and they’re so cute and comfy. A mid rise fit with slight distressing in the detail. They have different colors to choose from so you have different options for multiple outfit choices. The best thing out of the whole outfit is how affordable everything was. All together the entire outfit with top, shorts and sneakers included was under $50. I am always here for a bargain especially when I have three kids to chase after and buy for, so when I see a cute outfit for myself that’s both affordable and cute I’ll grab it.

Adventures in Camo

I love a good sale. But like an actual one not like just 10% off because unless it’s a large priced item 10% is really like the tax off on your item to me, lol. But Sirens was having an awesome sale of 40% off the entire store so I had to jump in. Being a mom of 3 if I do actually get myself something it’s rare because I always end up getting things for my kids instead (which I ended up getting some things for my oldest daughter too, lol) and completely forget about myself. But I’ve been trying to revamp my wardrobe and be a little more comfortable in my mom bod until I can get back in the gym. So I wanted to get a few cute things to wear.

I got this outfit because it’s stylist but still comfy. I love dresses, especially in spring and summer time because they’re easy to put on and you don’t have to worry about putting an outfit together. It’s one piece and you just get dressed and go. I could throw a jacket, cardigan or duster on over it and style it how I want. This cropped and distressed camo jacket is so cute and it’s stretchy material made it comfortable to wear.

My bag is from avenue and it’s so cute and easy to carry. I can put the things I need in it but don’t have a big bag I have to carry around with me. My sneakers from Sirens are so comfy and cute. I actually picked them up in 3 different colors. But black sneakers are a must for me because they go with literally everything. I think the gold detailing adds a trendy touch to them as well.

What are some sales you couldn’t pass up this past month? Where’s your favorite trendy and affordable places to shop? I hope you loves have an awesome Monday.

My Go To No Makeup, Makeup Look

With being a busy mom of 3, a lot of times I don’t have enough time to sit down and do a dramatic look or a full on glammed our face but I still want to look put together and awake even when I’m not, lol. I’ve been loving the more neutral no makeup, makeup looks. It’s fast and easy but also gives my facial features a chance to stand out a bit on their own. My skin is still smooth and flawless but it looks natural without a lot of products used. I don’t use eyeshadow or liner, I only use false lashes when I really want my eyes to pop and I use a nude tone lipstick most of the time for this look as well. It’s perfect for looking put together for work, errands and even quick drinks with friends or a laid back date night.

I will however use highlight. I love a good highlight. Makes your skin glow without much effort and I think it looks beautiful. Your skin looks so healthy with a nice glow to it. Obviously you don’t need to beam peoples eyes out with a no makeup makeup look but sometimes I just wanna a little extra shine (in a good way, not an oily face lol.)

On my face:

Too Faced Peach Perfect Foundation

Maybelline loose powder in medium deep under the eyes and deep on the rest of my face

Nyx bronzer in

Tarte blush in feisty

La colors highlight palette

Loreal liquid lip

Nyx brow gel in espresso and European Wax Center brow powder duo in medium

Below I listed some of my favorite products to use when I’m doing a more neutral look. I usually don’t use eye shadows or anything extra like that. I try and keep it as basic and simple as possible but still get the ultimate put together look. I get compliments all the time as well like oh you look so good, your skin looks great, you seem so energized today, etc. and I’m like oh thank you while also thinking girl I’m on my third cup of coffee and my 3 yr old changed her outfit 4 times before we could leave the house. 😂😂

Anyway, what are your favorite ways to get ready quick? Do you have any get glam quick tips that you live by?

DIY Crate Entertainment Center

Hi loves, so I’m back again with my second home diy project of the series. Next up in this series we built and entertainment center. I briefly mentioned it in my last diy crate foyer table post. For this diy the materials and directions are pretty much the same only for a larger scale project. This was fun because we tried different patterns before we decided on a specific design. We had been looking for an entertainment center that we both loved the design of and that fit the measurements for underneath our tv without having to move or rehang things on the wall. This only took us about a day with the majority of time being waiting for it to fully dry. So if you’re ready to get started keep reading below.

Materials needed:

(10) 18”x12 1/2”x9 1/2” crates $11 each at Home Depot

5/8” brad staples $4.24 at Walmart

Staple gun (already had)

Wood Stain (I choose Kona a dark brown black)

Wood Glue (already had)

2” clamp (already had)

Measuring tape (already had)

Sprayer $10 at Home Depot

Stain rags $5

L brackets about $4

To begin:

Put the crates together to see how you want them organized and put together. It’s good to take a picture if you aren’t following a guide for your design so you don’t forget exactly how you put it together. (As discussed in the last post where we forgot how we first had it, lol.) This time we mocked up a few different ways before we came up with the actual design we liked.

Once your mock up is done, start from the bottom and work your way to the top gluing all the sides together. Like a puzzle basically. For this one the design that we picked it was easier to glue and staple all the four side crates together first and then glue and staple the center pieces last since they connect together in the middle to float. Use the clamp to hold a section in place once you’ve glued it while you staple it down. Continue until all parts are glued and stapled together. Make sure you’re checking to see if all front sides of the crates sit flush before letting glue set or starting to staple everything down. We also decided the 2 floating crates in the middle we would add a board inside them to make 2 shelves for more storage. (Those were stained, glued and stapled in after the whole center was put together and added in later.)

Once the glue has dried or mostly dried (about 30 mins) then you can carefully move it outside or in the garage to start staining. There are a few different ways you can lay the stain. We choose both a brush and spray method again because it was quicker in the last diy as well. The sprayer mainly helped cover a lot of the table and then we brushed it out everywhere on the wood and then wiped it down with the rags. We let it dry over night even though the stain usually dries in about an hour or so depending on how many coats you apply.

Once stain has set and dried you can now place your entertainment center where you want. Now you can put up your gaming systems, movies and etc. We also secured ours to the wall with an L bracket so if anyone bumped it or our 3 yr old went to grab something it didn’t go tumbling over, lol.

Completed Entertainment Center measurements:

49 3/4″ H 48 1/2″ W 9 1/2″ D

I hope you enjoyed this DIY. This one took a little longer mainly waiting for it to dry and because we decided to add shelves but still fun and creative none the less. Don’t forget to follow my Snapchat @lolanicolemua for sneak peeks of other diy projects and tag me on Twitter or Instagram @lolanicoleblogs if you try this DIY as well. I’d love to see how you made this your own if you decide to try it. I Hope you’re loving this series as much as we are and have an amazing day!

Col•lab Makeup line review

So I came across this makeup line at Sally’s the other day and decided to grab a few things to try while they were having a bogo sale. I love trying new affordable products because if they work well then I’ve found new staple products to reach for in my makeup routine. I purchased the skin tint, matte foundation and radiant foundation to give those a try as well as the loose powder, pressed powder, a blush, the smoothing primer, micellar water, concealer and a color corrector.

Something I first noticed is that this line is not very shade inclusive. There’s only 6 shades in the skin tint and 10 shades in the foundations so the most porcelain skin and the darker skin tones are left out completely. I’m the eighth darkest shade (caramel) in the foundation and the fifth shade in the skin tint. So a lot of skin tones are left out. Both the foundation and skin tint are $14.99 each.

The packaging is nice. Sleek black and greys. The jars are glass. Clean fonts and the foundations come with a pump and the skin tints are in a squeeze tube. The concealer has a doe foot applicator and the color corrector comes in a jar. So it makes application for those easy and you save product. I wanted to try the line together because sometimes products work better with their own.

The skin tint

First up I tried the smoothing primer, skin tint, concealer, blush and pressed powder together. I didn’t use anything else aside from my tarts blush in feisty and my wet n wild highlighting gold bar and I set my face with my Morphe Continuous setting mist. The primer went on like a lotion for the most part. It felt kind of moisturizing for a minute. The skin tint was actually thicker than I thought it would be for it to have been a tint but it gave pretty good coverage. The concealer didn’t have as much coverage as I thought it would so it’s not something I would reach for on a daily basis. The pressed powder was ok. It seemed to set the face for the most part. The blush showed up on me more like a highlight than a blush which is why I added my tarte blush to it. I didn’t contour because I wanted a quick face. I noticed it quickly set into any fine lines I had even after setting with powder. I wore it for a full day of errands, etc. within about an hour I was oily so I was already not too happy with that. I blotted my face and went on with the day. About another hour or so I was oily again. A few hours after that I noticed the skin tint had oxidized. So about 5 hours into wearing it, it had oxidized terribly and had a grayish tint now and I was still oily. I couldn’t wait to get home and take it off. My face felt dirty and itchy and I didn’t like the ashy tint it developed.

The matte foundation

The next day I tried a different combo. I used the primer, matte foundation, color corrector, concealer and loose powder. I used my airspun for under my eyes and my tarte blush again, my wet n wild rainbow highlight and contoured with my nyx bronzer. I set my face with my Morphe continuous setting mist. This time the foundation didn’t oxidize as much as the skin tint did but I was oily within an hour. For a matte foundation I expected more oil control than what I got. The foundation never set on my face once applied at all. It never set to a matte finish it was dewy. It only set once I applied powder. I had to blot my face multiple times throughout an 8 hr wear which I don’t have to do until end of day with most of my matte foundations. So I wasn’t impressed with the matte foundation at all.

The radiant foundation

I didn’t try the radiant foundation alone. I figured since the matte foundation by itself was a bust then I wasn’t even going to attempt it. I instead mixed the radiant foundation with my too faced born this way foundation and did my makeup with the different products that I use on the daily. I wore this combo for about 8 hrs or so and when I got home from work my face was oily but not as bad as it was with the matte foundation by itself. It still settled into some of my lines fairly quickly but it wasn’t as terribly noticeable as the skin tint or the matte foundation. So I will say that mixed with another foundation that already works for my skin this foundation is a bit better but it’s still not something I would reach for on the daily. Especially since I have to mix it with another foundation just to get it to set decently on my face for the day. I may try mixing the matte foundation as well to see how I like that and if it will set better on my face but idk yet.

The powders and Blush

The powder both pressed and loose didn’t really do well to keep my makeup set and help keep oiliness down. It goes on fine but the lasting power just isn’t there. The blush I wasn’t too happy with, it was way too shimmery and seemed to be more of a highlight rather than an actual blush unless you’re more fair skinned even though I got one of the darker shades.

The Smoothing Primer

The primer to me didn’t really do anything nor did it blur any imperfections, it just goes on your face like a lotion and then sets but doesn’t keep your pores, imperfections or oiliness at bay for too long. I feel it may possibly work better on someone with dry to normal skin but for oily skin or combination skin it just wasn’t the best.

The undereye concealer

The under eye concealer was one of the most disappointing for me. I got the darkest peach shade and it kind of just spread around on the face and didn’t really cover much. I used both a stippling brush and concealer brush and then I tried a beauty blender but nothing seems to smooth it out any better. I like my under eye concealer to work really well especially on days that I am sick or my under eyes are especially dark but this just missed the mark completely.

The micellar water

I never actually tried the micellar water so it may have worked fine with removing makeup but once I had tried pretty much all the products (except the radiant foundation) I had purchased and wasn’t happy with any of those I just decided to take everything back. It’s $9.99 but for that price I can just stick with my ganier micellar water for $7.

The final review

All in all I just feel like this line is kind of a starter line for younger people who are just starting out in makeup. Something to practice with or if they don’t really have any skin issues this line may work for them. I have more mature skin (I’m 32), I have naturally darker undereye circles and a few acne scars. I like a good full coverage foundation unless I’m using a BB cream for a quick face. I have combination/oily skin so a matte foundation is usually what I reach for. I took most of the line back with the exception of the 2 foundations because I couldn’t find the receipt and just replaced those with things I actually use and like. Hopefully in the future they do better with formulas and especially the shade ranges. A successful makeup line needs to be shade and skin inclusive to reach a broader audience.

Did you try any of the products in this line? What did you like? What didn’t you like? What do you feel the company can do better with in the future? Be sure to follow me on Snapchat @lolanicolemua for more makeup reviews and mini tutorial videos as well. I hope you beauties have a blessed day.

DIY Crate Foyer Table

Hi Loves, I’m so excited to be starting this series with this first DIY project.

So I was looking around for a foyer table for weeks and I found a few cute ones I liked but they were either way more than I wanted to pay or sold out. So I decided to diy one. My husband got the idea to use crates after we were also looking for an entertainment center which we also did a diy on (I’ll have a blog up with that one as well) and I said what about palettes and we started looking up some different ideas and he came across a foyer table made out of wooden crates. So instead of searching around for palettes we decided on the crates and headed off to Home Depot to begin our projects. Below I will list items needed and photos of our step by step.

Items needed:

6 18”x12 1/2”x9 1/2” crates $11 each at Home Depot

1×12 board cut down to 56” for table top $15 at Home Depot

Legs (1 2×2 wooden stick .97 at Home Depot cut into 4 8” cuts)

5/8” brad staples $4.24 at Walmart

Staple gun (already had)

Wood Stain (I choose Kona semi-gloss a dark brown black)

Wood Glue (already had)

2” clamp (already had)

Measuring tape (already had)

Sprayer $10 at Home Depot

Stain rags $5

To begin:

Put the crates together to see how you want them organized and put together. It’s good to take a picture if you aren’t following a guide for your design so you don’t forget exactly how you put it together. (Like we did the first time, thank goodness nothing was glued yet, lolol.)

Once your mock up is done, start from the bottom and work your way to the top gluing all the sides together. Use the clamp to hold a section in place once you’ve glued it while you staple it down. Continue until all parts are glued and stapled together. Then glue and staple on the table top. Make sure both sides are equal in their overlap on the ends and the back of the board is flush with the back of the crates. There will be a bit of hang over in the front as well for a ledge.

Once the glue has dried or mostly dried (about 30 mins) then you can carefully move it outside or in the garage to start staining. There are a few different ways you can lay the stain. We choose both a brush and spray method. The sprayer mainly helped cover a lot of the table and then we brushed it out everywhere on the wood and then wiped it down with the rags. We let it dry over night even though the stain usually dries in about an hour or so depending on how many coats you apply.

Once stain has set and dried you can now apply your legs. Make sure all the legs are level and not crooked so you get a more even balance and no rocking. We glued the legs on and then used a drill and screws to screw in the legs on and secure them. Let glue dry and then you’re done. You can officially place the table where you want it and decorate as you wish.

Completed foyer measurements:

39 1/8″ H 56 1/8″ W 11 3/8″ D

I hope you enjoyed this DIY. It was actually pretty quick for the most part and it was certainly fun. The hubs and I really enjoyed it and it’s a great way to spend time together and catch up as well.
