The Affordable Summer Makeup You Need

I love makeup. So I’m constantly trying new things. But this current routine I have going is seriously perfect for me. It’s quick, easy and affordable which are three things I’m always down for, lol. So let’s get into my everyday beauty products. I’ve listed the products I use on a daily when doing makeup. I don’t go all out with my makeup for regular days, so my routine is pretty straight forward. I want to look put together and awake but quickly. So if you want a quick routine with products that won’t break the bank. These are all products that work well on my skin (I’m oily/combination type) and I use regularly. (You can tell by some of the pictures, these are my ride or die always reached for products.)

#1. Brows || Anastasia Dip Brow in Chocolate This Brow gel is literally my holy grail. I honestly don’t know why it took me so long to try it. But this has literally been my go to for brows for well over a year now. The pigmentation and lasting power are awesome. It’s $18 but you definitely get your money worth. 1 jar has lasted me months. Trust me you won’t be disappointed. Browfection Brow Powder Duo I use this powder to set my Dip Brow gel and fill any gaps in my brows that don’t take product. The duo is great because you can use one side for more dramatic brows and the other for lighter more tame brows. It’s only available at European Wax Center stores but while you’re in there get a free brow wax and you can have your brows filled in to try the powder out for free too. NYC Clear Brow Gel I use this to set my brows once I’ve finished my makeup and before I set my face for the day. It holds up so well and the brush separates my brow hairs nicely. With a price tag of under $4 it’s hard to pass up. It’s super affordable and lasts so long because you don’t need a lot at all.

#2. Maybelline FaceStudio Blender|| 95% of the time when I do my makeup I use a beauty sponge. I love how it blends my makeup products into the skin so nicely and makes my foundation look much more natural and skin like. I even use a damp blender for powder, especially when baking under the eyes if I’m wearing a full coverage look. There are so many blenders out there now since the Original Beauty Blender came out (which is still one of the best) but this one is affordable, durable and works great. Coming in at just under $6 I think you will be pleasantly surprised.(Blender shown dry, it almost doubles in size when wet.)

#3. Tarte Shape Tape || This concealer may not be drugstore priced but it’s under $30 and lasts for a good while. Plus a little bit goes a long way and I mean that. It only takes a dap to brighten my undereyes and really change my look from tired to awake. I even use it alone when I don’t want to wear any foundation at all. There’s so many shades to choose from so you’ll definitely find a shade for you. You can use this to highlight, contour or spot conceal. You need this concealer in your life, you won’t be sorry. But if you wanna save a bunch so you can get more products at once the LA Girl HD Pro Concealer is amazing and under $5. I used it for over a year before trying a new one. Hurray!!

#4. Primers and Setting Sprays || I always use a primer spray before I apply my makeup and after I’ve moisturized my face. I prefer primer sprays to regular primer because I just feel it sits on my skin and covers more evenly for me for some reason. I love this spray from Wet N Wild, this Photofocus Primer Water Spray is a good one. It doesn’t have a harsh or chemical smell, it sprays out evenly and with a $6 price tag you can’t go wrong. I highly recommend this one. As far as setting sprays go, these two are my favorite drugstore setting sprays, the NYX Matte Setting Spray and the E.L.F Beauty Shield Daily Defense Makeup Mist are my go to when I don’t want to use my more expensive setting sprays. The Nyx setting spray comes in a matte or dewy finish. But I go for matte because of my oily/combination skin. It has certainly shown me more times than I can remember it can hold its own. The Florida sun is not forgiving and relentless sometimes and especially during shoots this spray has locked my makeup in tight. The E.L.F Beauty Shield is a tight second. I love this one because I can use it as a primer or setting spray and I use it for both sometimes. It’s especially great when trying to pack light makeup. With an $8 price tag these are both great and I highly recommend trying them. These are literally two of my most reached for setting sprays and best of all they’re so affordable so you can stock up and never run out.

#5. L’Oréal Voluminous Lash Paradise || Now I know some people look at me crazy when I say this but I’ve never tried the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara so I can’t attest to whether this is actually a dupe for that. But with a $24 price tag I wanted to check for something a little cheaper because mascara doesn’t hold long enough for me to want to constantly replace at that price. But i’ve heard good things and so many people say it’s an affordable dupe. I just love drugstore mascara because it’s never let me down, it’s affordable and mascara goes bad so quick (you need to be replacing it at least every 3 months) so I’ve always stuck to drugstore because it’s one makeup product I replace quite often. I love the brush and the formula from this mascara. It coats my lashes so well and makes them look longer and thicker. My lashes are a struggle because my nervous tick is pulling at them when nothings on them so I need a mascara that masks how thin and short they are when I’m not wearing falsies. It’s under $7 right now at ulta. This one does the job and does it well.

#6. Most Used Makeup Brushes || These brushes are my most reached for. I have so many brushes I probably should use but these are the ones I use the most. Which is why they’re dirty because right after I clean them I go back to using them the next day. They’re all super affordable and hold up great. They’ve been through travel, my 3 yr old and many washes. They don’t shed or fray and the handles are sturdy. For my brows I use the Morphe M432 and Morphe E11 Angled Brow (I use both my pink one shown is from Morphe also but came in a set) and a brow spoolie that came in a makeup kit I got years ago but the Morphe B74 Angled Liner Spoolie works awesome too. For face my most used brushes are the Morphe MB1 Deluxe Powder Brush, The Wet N Wild Pro Line P55 Brush(the silver set was limited edition but the rose gold set is still available), the Real Techniques Bold Metals Tapered Brush and the fan brush I use is from a brush set I got from eBay years ago but the Morphe M310 Large Soft Fan Brush is perfect.

#7. Wet N Wild Highlighting Powders || I am in love with the new formulation of the highlights. Every one that I’ve purchased so far has been pigmented and so beautiful. These are two of my favorites at the moment. Summer Color Icon Baked Blush in Hummingbird Hype and Mega Glow Highlighting Powder in Golden Flower Crown. Both are so pretty and so smooth to the touch. They just glide on the skin like butter and add the most beautiful glow. At $5 each you can try more than one to find your favorite glow, they even have a Megaglow Highlighting Palette.

#8. Tarte Amazonian Clay 12 Hr Blush || I received these blushes in my birthday gift from Sephora and in an Ipsy bag and have been in love with this blush ever since. The shade Feisty is literally my favorite color blush and I use it 99% of the time I do my makeup. It’s just such a pretty color and looks great on a tan or deeper skin tone. Paaarty is a great color for lighter skin tones and it’s the same formulation so the results are amaze as well. They don’t have those particular shades available anymore but the Milani Rose Powder Blush in Romantic Rose and Tea Rose are great dupes and under $9. I added these blushes to the list because I have the small size and I’m still using it months later. They last so long so you will definitely get your $29 worth with the Amazonian Clay 12 Hr Blush line.

#9. Most Used Lip Products || My Chapstick in Chapstick Moisture Formula is pretty much a simple every day necessity for me. My lips are full so when I sleep they swell and get really dry and chapped. I also use this under any matte liquid lipsticks to keep my lips from getting too dry. Especially since matte liquid lipsticks are my favorite kind of lipstick. Loreal Infallible Pro Matte Liquid Lipstick in Milk and Cookies is literally my everyday lip shade. It’s the perfect mauvey nude and the formula is top notch. Literally won’t budge and takes Garnier Skin Active Waterproof (Blue Top) Micellar water to get it off. It’s under $10 and you get your money worth with this formula.

#10. Maybelline Fit Me Loose Setting Powder || This is literally my favorite setting powder so far. Not only is it affordable but it’s sooo good. Who knew a $6-8 ($6 at Walmart and $8.99 at Ulta) powder could be so good. I reach for this over all my setting powders right now. I use Medium Deep for under the eyes and Deep for setting all over when I’ve been out in the sun. The loose formula is so smooth and glides right on the face when applied. Doesn’t make you look powdery and no flash back. Definitely in my top must haves for the long haul.

#11 Maybelline SuperStay Foundation Stick in Toffee || I never was a huge fan of foundation sticks. I wanted to love them but every time I tried one I just ended up hating it. But this one I can actually say I’m loving it so far. I apply it to my face and use a beauty blender to blend it out and I just love the coverage and finish I get. Plus it lasts all day and works well with my other everyday products. For under $13 this foundation definitely holds it’s own and fits perfect in any small makeup bag or purse.

#12. Wet N Wild Pressed Powder in Cocoa || I use this mainly for oil control. Sometimes instead of blotting I’ll just dap a bit of this on the area and it helps control my face from getting super oily. It’s not a powder I would use to set any makeup but to spot blot it’s perfect and under $6.

What are your recent summer beauty faves?! I’m always trying new products and would love some recommendations or to try any of your holy grail products. Let me know in the comments and let’s chat.

The Romper You Need This Summer

I’ve been loving striped clothing lately. Such a nautical and summery style. This off the shoulder romper gives such a cute and flirty style while still being casual enough for day to day errands. You’ll notice on my blog I go for not only functionality and comfort but how well my outfits work while wrangling kids all day, lol.

I’m always a little skeptical when ordering online or even buying rompers in-store because I don’t know how they will fit since I am tall. I’ve had some rompers that were literal underwear on me, lol. (So disappointing for us tall girls) but this romper fit so well I was surprised. It’s not too short in the bottoms so it covers my butt. I don’t feel uncomfortable or like everything is hanging out. The material has a little stretch but still fits nicely.

You can wear it with so many options, sneakers for a casual vide, sandals for a little more casual cute or heels for a night out. I’m currently on the hunt for the perfect black heel that goes with everything. But I paired this one with 2 sneaker options for a more casual feel.

Brigitte Brianna Baseball Dress

What’s better than a dress? A dress with pockets, lol. I love dresses in the summer time. I really like them all year round but especially in the Florida summer heat a dress can be a life saver. Less clothing to put on and your outfit is complete with just one piece. I’m always nervous to try a new online site especially when I don’t know any other long limbed ladies to base size and length off of. But on Sexy Modest there’s size references for the models so it helps a ton when shopping. This fun dress is the baseball dress and it sells out quick. I was trying to order the grey one too and it was sold out (cry face emoji, lol).

It fits perfect and has a drawstring waist so you can adjust it to fit your length and waist. It’s a soft breathable material and the pockets are pretty deep. I’ve fit keys, phone, lipstick, toys. You name it the pockets have held it. No need for a purse with this one, lol. The best part is it’s under $40, machine washable and fits either just below or just above the knee depending on how you tie the drawstring. I wear it tied above the waist so it looks like a top and skirt.

Master Bedroom Makeover for under $1800

I’m so excited for this post. I have been wanting to get new bedroom furniture forever and we just kept putting it off. But I’m so glad we finally took the plunge and did it. Even though it was mainly me to my husband like “Ok, so this is happening like now, lol.” My bedroom is a bit more modern and bright than my livingroom which you will see in my livingroom revamp post soon because I love so many different styles I wanted to make every room something fun and different to walk into.

What’s even better is we were able to revamp our room for under $1800. I know to some that may seem like a lot as well but before we started I spent 2 weeks putting together a vision board, looking at other room ideas, choosing furniture, etc. what I learned was just finding furniture that’s pretty, functional and still inexpensive can be done. Because any sort of home decor redo can definitely put your budget high if you aren’t shopper savvy. Just by having my husband powdercoat our dresser and nightstand handles instead of just buying new ones saved us about $40. I also saved money by keeping my floor mirror and office furniture I already had. I shopped around, went to sales, used coupons, etc. whatever you need to do to get your room how you want it for the least expensive is really the main goal.

I went with a white base (furniture) and then added in some mustard yellow, grey, gold, silver and navy blue. So it has a feminine touch but still some masculinity to it. Don’t want the hubs to feel left out in his own bedroom, lol. The ikea dressers we went with are a new design at ikea and they came just in time for our revamp. The original handle were black but we powdercoated them silver to match the lamps. (A little ikea hack for you, lol) I shopped at At home, Target, Ikea and American Freight. We haven’t added any pictures yet because I want to find some that match the decor better than the photos we had up previously. I will make a post once I find the perfect ones.

Below is the before and after of our room. Just rearranging your furniture can give your room a whole new feel. We wanted to create more space and a more open feel in our room as well and just by changing the colors in our room and moving the bed and things around made it feel like our master bedroom was so much larger than it really is. Just by going from dark furniture to a white and silver theme with pops of color gave it a larger, more bright and clean flow. If you’d like a more in depth post of how I saved $1500 while still buying basically all new bedroom furniture than please leave a comment and I will definitely get that post up for you because I love helping others save money while still being able to decorate, have amazing decor and live comfortably.

Adventures in Camo

I love a good sale. But like an actual one not like just 10% off because unless it’s a large priced item 10% is really like the tax off on your item to me, lol. But Sirens was having an awesome sale of 40% off the entire store so I had to jump in. Being a mom of 3 if I do actually get myself something it’s rare because I always end up getting things for my kids instead (which I ended up getting some things for my oldest daughter too, lol) and completely forget about myself. But I’ve been trying to revamp my wardrobe and be a little more comfortable in my mom bod until I can get back in the gym. So I wanted to get a few cute things to wear.

I got this outfit because it’s stylist but still comfy. I love dresses, especially in spring and summer time because they’re easy to put on and you don’t have to worry about putting an outfit together. It’s one piece and you just get dressed and go. I could throw a jacket, cardigan or duster on over it and style it how I want. This cropped and distressed camo jacket is so cute and it’s stretchy material made it comfortable to wear.

My bag is from avenue and it’s so cute and easy to carry. I can put the things I need in it but don’t have a big bag I have to carry around with me. My sneakers from Sirens are so comfy and cute. I actually picked them up in 3 different colors. But black sneakers are a must for me because they go with literally everything. I think the gold detailing adds a trendy touch to them as well.

What are some sales you couldn’t pass up this past month? Where’s your favorite trendy and affordable places to shop? I hope you loves have an awesome Monday.

My Go To No Makeup, Makeup Look

With being a busy mom of 3, a lot of times I don’t have enough time to sit down and do a dramatic look or a full on glammed our face but I still want to look put together and awake even when I’m not, lol. I’ve been loving the more neutral no makeup, makeup looks. It’s fast and easy but also gives my facial features a chance to stand out a bit on their own. My skin is still smooth and flawless but it looks natural without a lot of products used. I don’t use eyeshadow or liner, I only use false lashes when I really want my eyes to pop and I use a nude tone lipstick most of the time for this look as well. It’s perfect for looking put together for work, errands and even quick drinks with friends or a laid back date night.

I will however use highlight. I love a good highlight. Makes your skin glow without much effort and I think it looks beautiful. Your skin looks so healthy with a nice glow to it. Obviously you don’t need to beam peoples eyes out with a no makeup makeup look but sometimes I just wanna a little extra shine (in a good way, not an oily face lol.)

On my face:

Too Faced Peach Perfect Foundation

Maybelline loose powder in medium deep under the eyes and deep on the rest of my face

Nyx bronzer in

Tarte blush in feisty

La colors highlight palette

Loreal liquid lip

Nyx brow gel in espresso and European Wax Center brow powder duo in medium

Below I listed some of my favorite products to use when I’m doing a more neutral look. I usually don’t use eye shadows or anything extra like that. I try and keep it as basic and simple as possible but still get the ultimate put together look. I get compliments all the time as well like oh you look so good, your skin looks great, you seem so energized today, etc. and I’m like oh thank you while also thinking girl I’m on my third cup of coffee and my 3 yr old changed her outfit 4 times before we could leave the house. 😂😂

Anyway, what are your favorite ways to get ready quick? Do you have any get glam quick tips that you live by?

Col•lab Makeup line review

So I came across this makeup line at Sally’s the other day and decided to grab a few things to try while they were having a bogo sale. I love trying new affordable products because if they work well then I’ve found new staple products to reach for in my makeup routine. I purchased the skin tint, matte foundation and radiant foundation to give those a try as well as the loose powder, pressed powder, a blush, the smoothing primer, micellar water, concealer and a color corrector.

Something I first noticed is that this line is not very shade inclusive. There’s only 6 shades in the skin tint and 10 shades in the foundations so the most porcelain skin and the darker skin tones are left out completely. I’m the eighth darkest shade (caramel) in the foundation and the fifth shade in the skin tint. So a lot of skin tones are left out. Both the foundation and skin tint are $14.99 each.

The packaging is nice. Sleek black and greys. The jars are glass. Clean fonts and the foundations come with a pump and the skin tints are in a squeeze tube. The concealer has a doe foot applicator and the color corrector comes in a jar. So it makes application for those easy and you save product. I wanted to try the line together because sometimes products work better with their own.

The skin tint

First up I tried the smoothing primer, skin tint, concealer, blush and pressed powder together. I didn’t use anything else aside from my tarts blush in feisty and my wet n wild highlighting gold bar and I set my face with my Morphe Continuous setting mist. The primer went on like a lotion for the most part. It felt kind of moisturizing for a minute. The skin tint was actually thicker than I thought it would be for it to have been a tint but it gave pretty good coverage. The concealer didn’t have as much coverage as I thought it would so it’s not something I would reach for on a daily basis. The pressed powder was ok. It seemed to set the face for the most part. The blush showed up on me more like a highlight than a blush which is why I added my tarte blush to it. I didn’t contour because I wanted a quick face. I noticed it quickly set into any fine lines I had even after setting with powder. I wore it for a full day of errands, etc. within about an hour I was oily so I was already not too happy with that. I blotted my face and went on with the day. About another hour or so I was oily again. A few hours after that I noticed the skin tint had oxidized. So about 5 hours into wearing it, it had oxidized terribly and had a grayish tint now and I was still oily. I couldn’t wait to get home and take it off. My face felt dirty and itchy and I didn’t like the ashy tint it developed.

The matte foundation

The next day I tried a different combo. I used the primer, matte foundation, color corrector, concealer and loose powder. I used my airspun for under my eyes and my tarte blush again, my wet n wild rainbow highlight and contoured with my nyx bronzer. I set my face with my Morphe continuous setting mist. This time the foundation didn’t oxidize as much as the skin tint did but I was oily within an hour. For a matte foundation I expected more oil control than what I got. The foundation never set on my face once applied at all. It never set to a matte finish it was dewy. It only set once I applied powder. I had to blot my face multiple times throughout an 8 hr wear which I don’t have to do until end of day with most of my matte foundations. So I wasn’t impressed with the matte foundation at all.

The radiant foundation

I didn’t try the radiant foundation alone. I figured since the matte foundation by itself was a bust then I wasn’t even going to attempt it. I instead mixed the radiant foundation with my too faced born this way foundation and did my makeup with the different products that I use on the daily. I wore this combo for about 8 hrs or so and when I got home from work my face was oily but not as bad as it was with the matte foundation by itself. It still settled into some of my lines fairly quickly but it wasn’t as terribly noticeable as the skin tint or the matte foundation. So I will say that mixed with another foundation that already works for my skin this foundation is a bit better but it’s still not something I would reach for on the daily. Especially since I have to mix it with another foundation just to get it to set decently on my face for the day. I may try mixing the matte foundation as well to see how I like that and if it will set better on my face but idk yet.

The powders and Blush

The powder both pressed and loose didn’t really do well to keep my makeup set and help keep oiliness down. It goes on fine but the lasting power just isn’t there. The blush I wasn’t too happy with, it was way too shimmery and seemed to be more of a highlight rather than an actual blush unless you’re more fair skinned even though I got one of the darker shades.

The Smoothing Primer

The primer to me didn’t really do anything nor did it blur any imperfections, it just goes on your face like a lotion and then sets but doesn’t keep your pores, imperfections or oiliness at bay for too long. I feel it may possibly work better on someone with dry to normal skin but for oily skin or combination skin it just wasn’t the best.

The undereye concealer

The under eye concealer was one of the most disappointing for me. I got the darkest peach shade and it kind of just spread around on the face and didn’t really cover much. I used both a stippling brush and concealer brush and then I tried a beauty blender but nothing seems to smooth it out any better. I like my under eye concealer to work really well especially on days that I am sick or my under eyes are especially dark but this just missed the mark completely.

The micellar water

I never actually tried the micellar water so it may have worked fine with removing makeup but once I had tried pretty much all the products (except the radiant foundation) I had purchased and wasn’t happy with any of those I just decided to take everything back. It’s $9.99 but for that price I can just stick with my ganier micellar water for $7.

The final review

All in all I just feel like this line is kind of a starter line for younger people who are just starting out in makeup. Something to practice with or if they don’t really have any skin issues this line may work for them. I have more mature skin (I’m 32), I have naturally darker undereye circles and a few acne scars. I like a good full coverage foundation unless I’m using a BB cream for a quick face. I have combination/oily skin so a matte foundation is usually what I reach for. I took most of the line back with the exception of the 2 foundations because I couldn’t find the receipt and just replaced those with things I actually use and like. Hopefully in the future they do better with formulas and especially the shade ranges. A successful makeup line needs to be shade and skin inclusive to reach a broader audience.

Did you try any of the products in this line? What did you like? What didn’t you like? What do you feel the company can do better with in the future? Be sure to follow me on Snapchat @lolanicolemua for more makeup reviews and mini tutorial videos as well. I hope you beauties have a blessed day.

My Current Skincare Routine

Hi loves! So I've been exploring some new face oils, masks and cleansers. These are the ones that I have been loving the most so far. I rotate some of them for morning and night but I use my face oils both day and night for moisture and it also helps with my foundation as well because I notice I am less oily throughout the day when my face is more hydrated and moisturized. My skin is combination/oily with lots of oiliness in the t-zone area so don't be afraid to use oils on the skin because you're oily. It just lets your skin know that it doesn't need to produce as much because you're already moisturized.

My Olay Regenerist Advanced Anti-Aging Regenerating Cream Cleanser (mouth full, lol) face wash is what I use once or twice a week. Mainly when I don't wear makeup that day. Because I feel I get a nice deep exfoliating clean and it helps keep my skin clear of debris and the daily sun and weather exposure. It has a nice fresh scent which is still not chemically strong which I love. It's an exfoliating face wash but gentle on the skin and doesn't leave my face feeling raw or itchy just clean and refreshed.

These new L'Oréal face washes and masks have been amazing. I'm going to get the rest of them because I want to try them all out now. The two I've been using about 2 to 3 times a week are the charcoal and mattifying masks. You can feel the mattifying mask tightening on your skin as it dries. Really working to minimize those pores and mattify the skin. The charcoal mask works to brighten and detox the skin so it is a little less restricting as it dries. I love the pure clay cleanser. It's an exfoliating and refining mask. I have the 3 pure clay and red algae mask and I love it. It's not too rough on the skin so I am able to use it every day. I love the fact that these masks and cleansers have an earthy smell to them. That way it feels like you're actually cleansing and doing your skin some good rather than just rubbing chemicals into it.

I use Vanity Planet Spin for Perfect Skin brush with both face cleansers but sometimes I will just use my hands if I don't want too deep of a cleanse so to not irritate my skin when I've just waxed it or done another deep treatment. But I've been using this brush for almost 2 years now and I love it. I even bought my daughter one. It has a body brush for body exfoliation, a face brush, an exfoliating face brush and a pumice brush for more rough areas like elbows, knees and feet. It's an amazing brush that is so much more affordable than some other face brushes that can run you well into the $100-$400 range. I believe I had a coupon and only paid $20 plus shipping for mine. 🤗

My face exfoliating gel from European Wax Center is another favorite. I like to use this twice a week especially when I've been wearing a full face of makeup multiple times during the week. I just wash my face, dab it dry and then apply the gel and rub my hands in circular motions until I feel all the dead skin start to come off. Once I've done my whole face I go over it lightly with my spin for Perfect skin brush and rinse. My skin feels so smooth and clean after and I notice my makeup application is a lot smoother as well. It also has a nice scent which by now you should know I don't like over powering chemical smells. Especially if it's supposed to be a facial cleanser or mask for my face.

Once I'm done cleansing my face and I've done my mask, I will apply my facial moisturizers and oils. During the day I apply a light application of everything so it has time to soak into the skin and then I can apply my makeup and at night I like to use a more healthy application of product so my skin is relaxed and hydrated during the night. I first apply the Puretem moisturizer and then some of the Caudalie moisturizing sorbet. I use about 4 drops of Julep Rose Hip oil that I received in my voxbox and then I apply Vitamin E oil on top. I've noticed that my skin is much softer and more radiant now rather than waking up with a dull, dry appearance to the skin.

I apply pure castor oil to my eyebrows and lashes at night to help with growth. I've been using this for about 3 months and I've noticed some change in my brow and lash growth it's just a slow process with this method.

Towel pictured is Aquis Hair Towel (influenster sent it to me in a posh voxbox for testing purposes and I love it)

Overall I definitely recommend trying these products. They have all worked together to make my skin look more radiant and fresh. I haven't had any breakouts either since switching to this face routine. Check out these new face goodies. The L'Oréal, Olay, vitamin E and Castor oil I purchased all of those from Walmart. I hope if you try them you love them just as much as I do.
