How To: Style Leggings for Fall

Leggings are great. They can be worn year round, they come in many different styles, patterns and fabrics now. So if you have that favorite comfortable pair of leggings but you don’t want to look like you’ve just grabbed them off the floor from the night before and ran out the door to drop the kids off to school. (yes I’m speaking from experience. No shame in my mom game, lol.) Then this post should help give you a few styled ideas to take your leggings from casual to dressed up in no time.

I wanted to style some basic leggings 3 ways since Fall is in full effect. Sweaters are all the rage and are the perfect option to put on when there’s a chill in the air. You can layer them over a top or find a sweater that’s great to throw on alone. Add some cute mules or boots, a few accessories and you’re good to go.

I’ve linked some cute sweater and legging options for every budget so that you can get to styling those leggings and show the world your style.

6 Ways To Be Stylish On A Budget

In honor of my very first ever guest contributor post on I wanted to revamp my post I made for their site 8 Ways To Be Stylish On A Budget that I wrote in 2014. It’s been 4 years since that post and let me tell you some things have really changed. Fashion has definitely taken a turn and there are so many new styles, trends and fashion rules now. For me I follow one important rule which is BE YOURSELF. I know that sounds cliche but it’s so true. If you’re walking around in an outfit you saw online or saw a celebrity wearing but you don’t feel comfortable in it, it doesn’t matter how amazing the outfit looked on the person you saw it on first it’s not going to have the same look or feeling for you. Because it’s not your style. You want to find your style first and that will help you pick pieces you can mix and match and wear again and again and more importantly own that look and feel comfortable and KNOW you look good too.

So with that said I’m rounding up and sharing my top 6 tips to being stylish on a budget and a few of these tips are actually the same as in my first article because they’re so important and are still true to revamping your style every time:

1. Know YOUR body and Find YOUR Style

You want to find bloggers, celebs, people in magazines and even stylish people on the street that have your body shape and body type to model your style after. Wearing ill fitting clothing or patterns in a way thats not flattering for your body is the quickest way to make an outfit go from stylish to a hot mess so quick. Like me for example, I’m tall (5’8”) and most of my height is in my legs (37” inseam) so bermuda shorts are a no for me. They make my body look awkward, they usually squeeze my thighs and above my knee and I’m just uncomfortable in them all day and you can tell, lol. So I steer clear of them but I find ways around that because they are so cute when worn right. I get more of a mid-rise short with 5-7″ inseams instead (Old Navy has some great options) which is like a short length bermuda. They don’t come down as long as a regular length bermuda shorts would and they aren’t as form fitting on the legs but still give you that bermuda shorts feel. I also have a bubble butt that sits high so when I get pants sometimes they fit everywhere but the waist or everywhere but the legs. I tend to shop places that accommodate for tall women ( or have great tall options). So with that said, if you’re more bottom heavy or have long legs make sure you’re finding shorts, pants and jeans that aren’t cutting into your legs, butt and thighs or are too baggy and making your lower half look bigger in a bad way (we all want a nice looking bum but we have to do it right, lol.) If you’re more top heavy than find clothing like dresses and tops that fit your top half both comfortably and fits your shape the right way and that is the key. You don’t want buttons looking like they’re going to pop any second or a dress that’s cutting your body in a weird way that makes you look squatty or oddly shaped. Once you find clothing that fits you that’s when you’re able to just focus on picking pieces that you can interchange and wear different ways without having to worry about if the fit is right. Also taking your body measurements helps when shopping online because you can look at the sites size chart before choosing your sizing options which usually helps with eliminating getting things in the mail and having to send them back or take them into your local store to exchange it for something that fits right.

The best thing about online shopping and even when you’re shopping in the store is that there’s always a sale going on. Especially with highly trendworthy outfits and online boutiques. Things that are hot and in right now may very well be out in the next month or so. That’s the way the fashion industry works. So when getting on trend clothes you want to save your money here because they could be in today and out tomorrow and then you’re stuck with clothing that you spent so much money on but don’t want to wear anymore because it’s not in style. Whenever you find a new boutique or a new clothing site, take some time to google if there are coupons or if any bloggers have coupon codes for that specific site available. That way the on trend pieces you’re buying aren’t such a stressful investment when they could go out of style any minute. Also look and see if the company has their own coupons or sales. Old Navy, PRETTYLITTLETHING, FashionNova and many other clothing companies always have some sort of sale or coupons available so you’re always able to save some coin when you shop so you don’t feel so bad about your recent purchases. Save your money on the more big ticket, never going out of style pieces like a Louis Vuitton Speedy or a really nice Trenchcoat or those black pumps you’ve had your eye on from Christian Louboutin that you know will just gracefully age with time. This was an awesome way for me to always update my wardrobe without breaking the bank. Especially when I was in college and a single mom, every dime counts. ;0)

3. Buy, Sell and Trade

There are so many ways now that you can change up your wardrobe sometimes without even having to spend more money. Places like Platos Closet or a Thrift Store that buys old clothes you don’t want anymore can help you clean out your closet while getting new things right away. If you can wait a little I love selling things on because it’s so easy and quick. Take pictures of the clothes, post them on the site with a little description of outfit and condition, set your prices or your starting bid and sit back and watch the money roll in. That takes the pressure off of taking your clothes back and forth to different stores trying to sell everything off. For more expensive items you can use Poshmark, they are great for selling those name brand items that you don’t want to just give away or sell for $1. Hey like I said before, trends come and go so you always want to find cheaper ways of getting new things while not feeling so bad about letting go of the old.

4. DIY

DIYin is all the rage these days. You saw a cute off the shoulder graphic t-shirt a celeb was wearing but don’t want to spend the $100 price tag just go to Walmart or Five Below and grab you a few cheap band tees (both sell super cute graphic tees for $5) and watch a tutorial on how to cut a regular t-shirt into an off the shoulder shirt. It took me all of 10 mins to make a few off the shoulder tees I can wear to run errands or hang out or even around the house and still look cute for a fraction of the cost. Want some cute high waisted jean shorts but don’t have the money to get brand new ones right now? Look in your closet, a friends closet or your moms and get old jeans that you or they don’t want or even take a trip to the local Goodwill or thrift store in your area and grab some mom jeans that fit you well. Cut them into shorts, add some studs, distress them, etc and you’ve just saved $100+ on some on trend high-waisted shorts while spending all of $20 or less.

5. Borrow

Your sister, friend, mom or grandma will have something you’d love to wear. Whether it’s the beautiful vintage earrings, that designer bag you’ve had your eye on but can’t afford or that LBD you’ve had your eye on. Borrowing can help save tons of money and still have you looking fabulous without having to spend a dime. The best part is you can always wear it again so it’s like you bought it yourself, as long as you make sure that’s ok with who you borrowed it from, lol.

6. Mix and Match

My final tip is one i’ve said time and time again. Take something from one season and remix it to turn it into a fall or winter item with some layering. Turn that summer dress into a fall outfit by adding tights or leggings, add a scarf, a hat or a sweater. Turn those summer favorite high-waisted shorts into a fall outfit by tucking in a long sleeve flannel shirt, layering it with a cute cardigan and adding some fall essentials. Be creative, you don’t have to buy a whole new wardrobe for each season if you can’t afford it or even if you can. Save money by being creative with what you have. It’s what really shows your style and your ability to adapt to different seasons or trends without breaking the bank or maybe not even spending any money at all.

Jumpsuit Options (“Madison Jumpsuit” Shown is Sold Out)

I hope these top 6 tips help you with revamping your wardrobe or building a whole new one. We all love to shop, whether it be for new clothes or accessories. The best part is these tips can be used for pretty much anything. Whether you want to revamp your home with new furniture or a new look or you want to change up your decor. You can take these tips and apply them to home decor as well and still save money. I have a few tips on revamping your bedroom and your livingroom on my blog as well that I will link here Farmhouse Inspired Livingroom Revamp and here Master Bedroom Revamp so you can go check those out as well.

July Instagram Recap

Happy August, babes! I wanted to round up all my July IG Posts for y’all to make it easier to find and shop everything in one place. This is the first time I’m doing an insta recap so it’s a little later than I wanted to post but I’m going to be posting these the 1st Friday of every month at 9am now. This will help if you happen to miss when something is posted you can find it all here for that month. I also post things in the highlights of my Instagram as well so if you ever have questions about an outfit or something in a picture I post you can check there or just head back to my blog on the 1st Friday of every month to get a recap. Instagram has changed the algorithm once again, ugh! They make your feed based on exactly what they “think” you want to see by who and what you engage with now. So to keep my photos in your feed just keep engaging with my photos (likes and comments) and watch my stories so my posts keep showing up. ;0)

July was a great month for my blog because I’ve really been getting into planning and organizing better. So now my IG will have more bright, fun and colorful photos and I’m also working on a shop my looks section for the blog so it’s easier, so stay tuned for that. There will also be some giveaways posted on my Instagram this month and next so if you aren’t already following me head over to my Instagram and hit that blue button so you don’t miss out. It’s going to be a good one. I’m really trying to focus the rest of this year on making my blog top priority so I will be sharing and posting a lot more.

The Romper You Need This Summer

I’ve been loving striped clothing lately. Such a nautical and summery style. This off the shoulder romper gives such a cute and flirty style while still being casual enough for day to day errands. You’ll notice on my blog I go for not only functionality and comfort but how well my outfits work while wrangling kids all day, lol.

I’m always a little skeptical when ordering online or even buying rompers in-store because I don’t know how they will fit since I am tall. I’ve had some rompers that were literal underwear on me, lol. (So disappointing for us tall girls) but this romper fit so well I was surprised. It’s not too short in the bottoms so it covers my butt. I don’t feel uncomfortable or like everything is hanging out. The material has a little stretch but still fits nicely.

You can wear it with so many options, sneakers for a casual vide, sandals for a little more casual cute or heels for a night out. I’m currently on the hunt for the perfect black heel that goes with everything. But I paired this one with 2 sneaker options for a more casual feel.

Is It Fall Yet? Fall Outfit Inspiration!

I know, I know it’s still summer and I live in Florida. But I was born during a blizzard in Iceland and then lived up north for some years before landing in Florida and I’ve experienced all the seasons. My favorite seasons are Spring and Fall because you literally only need a light jacket or cute fall outfit and you’re good to go, it’s not too hot and not too cold. (Name that movie line reference, lol) Literally perfect weather.

With all the Nordstrom sale fun I decided to change things up a bit and style a fall outfit to shoot. (I took one for the team because OMG it was hot outside, lol.) But I’m in love with this oversized sweater dress from Pretty Little Thing it’s not too heavy in material so it can be layered or worn alone for a light fall look. You can also mix it up and wear it with sneakers instead of boots but I was in a fall mood so I had to wear my knee high boots.

My boots are so comfortable and versatile. They can be worn with dresses, skirts, shorts and even over jeans. I’ve had them for years and they still look and feel great. My bag is the perfect fall tote and I love its oversized style. Perfect for all my snacks I’ll need while I’m running around like crazy this school year. I can even fit a bottle of wine in there. That’s right I checked, you’re welcome. 😉

Flirty Blush Pink Style

It’s hot in Florida and I do mean HOT! Yesterday my car read 102 degrees outside temperature (insert gasps for air, lol). I love blush pink. Pink in general has been one of my favorite colors forever. But when I saw this top at Sirens I had to grab it. It’s blush pink and off the shoulder so 2 things I adore, lol. The shorts are from the Time and Tru line at Walmart and they’re so cute and comfy. A mid rise fit with slight distressing in the detail. They have different colors to choose from so you have different options for multiple outfit choices. The best thing out of the whole outfit is how affordable everything was. All together the entire outfit with top, shorts and sneakers included was under $50. I am always here for a bargain especially when I have three kids to chase after and buy for, so when I see a cute outfit for myself that’s both affordable and cute I’ll grab it.

My Go To No Makeup, Makeup Look

With being a busy mom of 3, a lot of times I don’t have enough time to sit down and do a dramatic look or a full on glammed our face but I still want to look put together and awake even when I’m not, lol. I’ve been loving the more neutral no makeup, makeup looks. It’s fast and easy but also gives my facial features a chance to stand out a bit on their own. My skin is still smooth and flawless but it looks natural without a lot of products used. I don’t use eyeshadow or liner, I only use false lashes when I really want my eyes to pop and I use a nude tone lipstick most of the time for this look as well. It’s perfect for looking put together for work, errands and even quick drinks with friends or a laid back date night.

I will however use highlight. I love a good highlight. Makes your skin glow without much effort and I think it looks beautiful. Your skin looks so healthy with a nice glow to it. Obviously you don’t need to beam peoples eyes out with a no makeup makeup look but sometimes I just wanna a little extra shine (in a good way, not an oily face lol.)

On my face:

Too Faced Peach Perfect Foundation

Maybelline loose powder in medium deep under the eyes and deep on the rest of my face

Nyx bronzer in

Tarte blush in feisty

La colors highlight palette

Loreal liquid lip

Nyx brow gel in espresso and European Wax Center brow powder duo in medium

Below I listed some of my favorite products to use when I’m doing a more neutral look. I usually don’t use eye shadows or anything extra like that. I try and keep it as basic and simple as possible but still get the ultimate put together look. I get compliments all the time as well like oh you look so good, your skin looks great, you seem so energized today, etc. and I’m like oh thank you while also thinking girl I’m on my third cup of coffee and my 3 yr old changed her outfit 4 times before we could leave the house. 😂😂

Product list:

Anyway, what are your favorite ways to get ready quick? Do you have any get glam quick tips that you live by?

I hope you all have a wonderful Friday. ❤️

DIY Crate Entertainment Center

Hi loves, so I’m back again with my second home diy project of the series. Next up in this series we built and entertainment center. I briefly mentioned it in my last diy crate foyer table post. For this diy the materials and directions are pretty much the same only for a larger scale project. This was fun because we tried different patterns before we decided on a specific design. We had been looking for an entertainment center that we both loved the design of and that fit the measurements for underneath our tv without having to move or rehang things on the wall. This only took us about a day with the majority of time being waiting for it to fully dry. So if you’re ready to get started keep reading below.

Materials needed:

(10) 18”x12 1/2”x9 1/2” crates $11 each at Home Depot

5/8” brad staples $4.24 at Walmart

Staple gun (already had)

Wood Stain (I choose Kona a dark brown black)

Wood Glue (already had)

2” clamp (already had)

Measuring tape (already had)

Sprayer $10 at Home Depot

Stain rags $5

L brackets about $4

To begin:

Put the crates together to see how you want them organized and put together. It’s good to take a picture if you aren’t following a guide for your design so you don’t forget exactly how you put it together. (As discussed in the last post where we forgot how we first had it, lol.) This time we mocked up a few different ways before we came up with the actual design we liked.

Once your mock up is done, start from the bottom and work your way to the top gluing all the sides together. Like a puzzle basically. For this one the design that we picked it was easier to glue and staple all the four side crates together first and then glue and staple the center pieces last since they connect together in the middle to float. Use the clamp to hold a section in place once you’ve glued it while you staple it down. Continue until all parts are glued and stapled together. Make sure you’re checking to see if all front sides of the crates sit flush before letting glue set or starting to staple everything down. We also decided the 2 floating crates in the middle we would add a board inside them to make 2 shelves for more storage. (Those were stained, glued and stapled in after the whole center was put together and added in later.)

Once the glue has dried or mostly dried (about 30 mins) then you can carefully move it outside or in the garage to start staining. There are a few different ways you can lay the stain. We choose both a brush and spray method again because it was quicker in the last diy as well. The sprayer mainly helped cover a lot of the table and then we brushed it out everywhere on the wood and then wiped it down with the rags. We let it dry over night even though the stain usually dries in about an hour or so depending on how many coats you apply.

Once stain has set and dried you can now place your entertainment center where you want. Now you can put up your gaming systems, movies and etc. We also secured ours to the wall with an L bracket so if anyone bumped it or our 3 yr old went to grab something it didn’t go tumbling over, lol.

Completed Entertainment Center measurements:

49 3/4″ H 48 1/2″ W 9 1/2″ D

I hope you enjoyed this DIY. This one took a little longer mainly waiting for it to dry and because we decided to add shelves but still fun and creative none the less. Don’t forget to follow my Snapchat @lolanicolemua for sneak peeks of other diy projects and tag me on Twitter or Instagram @lolanicoleblogs if you try this DIY as well. I’d love to see how you made this your own if you decide to try it. I Hope you’re loving this series as much as we are and have an amazing day!

My Top 6 Favorite Drugstore Highlights

Hi loves. So I've been obsessed with highlighting lately. It's been the highlight (pun intended, lol) of my everyday makeup routine. Whether I'm just running errands, going to work or for a night out I always have some highlight. It just depends on how bright I wanna shine that day, lol. I feel like it just gives such a beautiful and effortless glow to the skin and face. It really brightens everything up and even if you aren't feeling the day or feeling well, a good highlight can really bring life to your face. So I've picked these 6 (7 if you count both of the wet n wild highlights) as my top favs so far for the summer.
